Collaboration with Faction Brewing.
We take inspiration from all over the world to create our beers, and Coastal Connect is no exception. We teamed up with our friends up the coast at Faction Brewing to develop this pale, dry, clean lager featuring notes of tropical fruit, melon, citrus, and wine grapes from New Zealand Hops. When these flavorful hops connect with two collaborating breweries from California, everyone wins!

Clear golden brew with a tall pile of suds in the thistle glass. Crisp and lively on the tongue with plenty of body. Light and flowery aroma with some unusual notes of cucumber and green melon. While New Zealand is the mantra with this, no one says what or why.
There is an interesting green vegetable taste with a touch of butter in the finish. Fairly bitter in the aftertaste. Quite drinkable, overall, with the unusual green and unripe-seeming flavors. From the 16 oz can purchased at Barons Market.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewing Co pint glass
A: Pours pale golden straw with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and leaves some spotty lacing.
S: Light tropical and stone fruit, white grape, gooseberry, floral, citrus zest, slightly grassy, a hint of pine, crackery malt, and a touch of sweetness.
T: Grassy, floral, citrus zest, grapefruit, lemon, and lime, white grape, light tropical fruit, apricot, passion fruit, mango, and gooseberry, a touch of spicy pine, light crackery malt, and just a touch of sweetness.
M: Light to medium body, moderately lively carbonation.
O: Tough to call this one a pilsner, drinks more like a session IPL. That said, it is a tasty crusher.

Can from The Beermongers. Canned 09 August.
A faintly hazy light yellow with a dense white head with decent retention and nice lacing, this looks good. The nose is moderately hoppy with lots of fruit, with melon, grape and a little red apple. Clean and fresh with a crisp malt backbone. The palate opens crisp and clean, a blend of mild bitterness and delicate fruit flavors. Grape, gooseberry, melon, a little citrus are present. None of the malt depth that you'd expect from a pilsner is present. This is neither snappy nor delicately doughy and instead, calls to mind a great American lager. Light, crisp, if a bit soapy, this beer is quite crushable.

First time I had heard of this beer. Right up my alley as a New Zealand Pilsner. Went back and forth on reviewing as a German or a Czech Pilsner, but went with Czech Pilsner. Can description read, “We take inspiration from all over the world to create our beers, and Coastal Connect is no exception. Poured a medium yellow-to-gold clear color with four fingers of rocky off-white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass at different speeds. Decent foamy lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.00)
Smelled big tropical notes. If I had to guess hops I would say Motueka and something a little spicier. Also herbal, green leaf, black pepper, grass, lime, floral, earthy malt and a touch of corn cereal. Got more malt from the can than anything else. (Smell - 4.00)
Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose, but followed it for the most part. Still leaning toward Motueka and another spicier hop. Also herbal, green leaf, grass, black pepper, earthy malt, lime zest, floral, sourdough bread and a touch of corn cereal. (Taste - 3.50)
Medium body. Oily-to-thin texture. Lively carbonation. Dry, crisp finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This beer grew on me a bit as it went down. Very good overall. (Overall - 3.75)
