A: Dark ice tea pour summons a monstrous 3 finger mushroomy crown that had a light peanut shell tint. Lengthy retention atop with a strong, quick rise of carbonation bubbles along the vessel walls. Big wads of spongy foam deposits adhere heartily on the sides.

S: Sweet crystal malts, lightly dry, spicy cola, cinnamon sticks and some earthy dry tea.

T: Flavor was earthy tea and dry crystal malts. The sweetness from the grains are balanced by an earthy bitterness, cola, and dry cinnamon sticks. Fresh green hopping with a soft hint of pear fruitiness. Some dry nuttiness, sweet caramel and some breadiness.

M: Mouthful is dry, nutty and bready, powdery with a medium body. Tingly micro-bubbly sensation.

O: Overall not usually a big fan of style but his may be a game changer. Nice soft, dry crystal maltbase, spicy colal, easy drinking and very good per style.

On tap at Alesmith

A: Deep reddish brown with a creamy beige head. Really nice color.

S: Lots of caramel with lesser notes of bread. Esters remind me of apple and a perhaps plum. There's a suggestion of sulfur, and a little tea character.

T: Toasted biscuit melds with bread and a subtle herbal tea flavor. Caramel is evident, and there's a low earthy bitterness. A touch of mineral accompanies notes of apple.

M: Lower medium body with moderate carbonation. The mouthfeel is smooth.

Overall: I'm not big on the style, but this is enjoyable and easy to drink. I prefer this to the regular Anvil ESB.
