Darker than I usually like my doppelbocks to be, but I'm not holding that against it. Very dark and intimidating beer.
Nose of dark malts and bourbon. Again, intimidating beer.
Mouthfeel is medium-heavy with very limited carbonated influence.
Taste is less doppelbock, as the melanoidins are not apparent, but is lovely. Dark fruits, barrel, and bourbon all intermix to produce a beautiful glass of beer. No one aspect dominates and all share the spotlight equally.
If evaluated as a doppelbock, this beer would be rated lower, but evaluated as a beer in and of itself it is outstanding.

An imposingly dark brown that's practically black and surprisingly viscous looking, as very little tan head dies to a slick surface.
Actually impressive in taste, the almost thickening barrel presence is lending tons of bourbon char that emulates Tootsie chocolate and even vanillin coconut.
It's very stout-like, even strong--wtf is going on?
