I was so impressed with this beer, I wrote an email to the Head Brewer, Adam Ball complementing him on this wonderful brew. I've had an Anacapa growler for a few years now but only filled it a few times. With brews like this, that will change very quickly!
Pours a dark amber-red with an off-white head that fades to a nice, patchy lace. The smell is complex malts with a spicy centenial hop bitterness. Very inviting. A sip brings a wonderfully smooth toffee malt. Very crisp and very clean. This fades to a great hop balance. Slight pepper with a great sticky pine. It reminds me a lot of Lagunitas Undercover Investigation Shutdown and Green Flash Hop Head Red but, if you can believe it, an even bigger flavor profile (seriously, I was VERY impressed with this beer). The aftertaste is sweet and satisfying with hints of toffee. No alcohol burn at all. You can only sense the 8% after you've had a pint. This is a MUST TRY if you live within a few hours of Anacapa. GET IT WHILE YOU CAN- it's just THAT GOOD!!!!
