A smooth-drinking, chocolaty and shockingly refreshing Czech dark lager. A brewer's favorite after a long day shuffling grain. This beer looks like a porter, but drinks like a dream. Don't let the color fool you into thinking this beer is heavy, it was designed to be quaffable pint after pint.

An excellent dark Czech lager! Could have been a hair colder, lighter and more bubbly, but maybe that'd've taken away from the authenticity of this one. A very rare style, very hard to find, but it hit the SPOT and the pub itself was exactly the place to be on a cold fall evening. I'll be back for sure!!

draught
Moderate amount of beige head. Very dark brown, with a chestnut hue, for the appearance. A malted, dark roasted grain aroma. Balanced, moderately toasted grain and spiced malt flavor.

Poured from 16oz can into my 8th Wonder chalice.
Appearance: dark brown hue that shows a rich amber when held up to the light. The body has no haze and the head is a finger of frothy tan foam. It looks quite excellent.
Smell: quite yeasty with a little bit of toast, caramel, and chocolate. It’s not bad, but it’s not as crisp as I like in the style.
Taste: toasty and caramelly, like the aroma, with a bit of astringency. That yeastiness is also there, leading it to not be super crisp. Again, not bad, but it could be cleaned up a little.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: a reasonably good Czech dark lager.

Dark brown, golden tinged, with adequate foam in the snifter. Faint aroma of grain. Light body with a modest bit of spritz and a watery mouthfeel. Rather sweet and malty with a burnt taste. It does taste more like a Schwarzbier but it is not so black. This is a pleasant dark beer in the lighter vein and quite quaffable. From the 16 oz can purchased at Town Y Country market in Shoreline. DAte stamp not legible.

Brown cola like liquid with a one finger taupe foam cap quickly recedes to a creamy layer , few lacings
Aroma is malty , no hop presence
Taste is malty , hint of nuttiness , hint of coffee, there is some sour / bitterness in the brew
Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy , quaffable indeed
Good beer

32oz crowler served in a nonic pint. Bought it three days ago at The Bine.
Pours black with a biggish head, collapses quite a bit. Not completely opaque, doesn't look thick, moderate to high carbonation. Smell is roasty, nutty, some anise.
Taste is moderately roasty, surprisingly sweet, almost a fruity characteristic. Definitely still get the anise.
Mouthfeel is medium, maybe a little filmy. Overall, quite enjoyable.
