Review from notes from the 5L mini-keg I got last week at the LCBO.

Pours a crystal clear light golden straw hue with an insane 3 finger dense, rocky, creamy, billowing, I can't think of anymore words to describe it, head that has excellent retention and leaves big chunks of sticky, patchy lacing down the sides of the glass. If the colour was a bit more attractive, this beer's appearance couldn't get any better. Lively amount of carbonation can be seen fueling the massive head.

Grainy malt, biscuit and apple juice upfront followed by a big dose of grassy hops.

The grainy malt is quite pronounced but is decently balanced out by the grassy hops. The slightly sour apple notes are found somewhere in the middle.

Mouthfeel is clean, crisp and dry. Refreshing and easily drinkable.

Besides its appearance, there's nothing overly special about this beer, everything borders average. That's alright though, for some reason I wasn't really expecting much from this beer. Maybe from the size it came in or from the cheap price. Either way, this bad boy will be finished in no time.

VERY disappointed with this beer , given it was rated as the best sold my Aldi. Too bitter. Thin. Lingers too long. Almost like 'skunk' beer! What a waste of money. I think I actually prefer Heineken 0.0!

500 ml can into willi becher glass, best before 4/29/2026. Pours slightly cloudy pale golden straw yellow color with a 3 finger dense and fluffy white head with amazing retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas and flavors of big lemon, cracker, white bread dough, light toast/biscuit/nuttiness, wood, peppercorn, pine, herbal, floral, grass. Medium pine, woody, spicy, citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Medium-high carbonation, light-medium body, and crisp/clean/refreshing finish. Balanced bready/grainy malt and sticky hop mouthfeel. Light resins and lingering hop oil dryness with minimal hop astringency. Nearly bone dry finish. A slight touch of minerality after the finish. Perfectly clean lager flavors, no yeasty notes. Spot on German pils. Balanced clean pils/munich malt and noble hop flavor profile.

Poured from a 500 ml can into a pint glass. Clear golden color with a large white head. Foam drops at a moderate pace and leaves a good amount of lacing.

Aroma is clean and sharper than an adjunct lager, but still fairly restrained. There’s hop presence, though it isn’t loud or expressive.

Flavor is balanced and straightforward. Light malt up front with hop bitterness showing mainly at the finish. There’s a small hop bite that closes things out, but it doesn’t linger.

Mouthfeel is on the heavier side of light. Carbonation is present without being prickly. The finish is dry and makes it easy to keep drinking.

Overall, this is a typical German Pilsner. Clean, dry, and properly structured, without trying to stand out. It doesn’t do anything flashy, but it does what the style is supposed to do. Considering it came from Aldi, it’s a solid and reliable option.

Pours a crystal clear light straw with three fingers of white foam and large display of tenacious lacing, from a sixteen ounce can into a Pilsner glass. Aroma of fresh bread and noble hops and flavors that match. Good value.

I get this for a steal at Aldi, where I go shopping, and it is my go to beer. I like it. I looked on a map and it comes from just a few miles from Czech republic so I consider it my Czech beer because I like Czech Pils style. I like pilsner's and hops like even in IPA, but this has hops enough for me. If you know of a better Pils for the money, tell me about it.

Aldi purchase. Tried various ways - pint glass, can, etc.

It's a solid cheap beer. And you do get plenty of that German import flavor profile. There is some apply off flavor but it is not so much that it overwhelms the other facets of the beer. If you want a truly quintessential German import lager this is not the one you want, but if you want a cheap alternative it checks the boxes.

Copenhagen 26/5 2025. 33 cl bottle from Edeka, Ossenreyerstraße, Stralsund. Dark green label with a light "W" in the centra. The name of brewery and beer in white letters.

Pours clear pale yellow with a big white head. Settles as 1 cm thick layer of foam covering the surface of the beer. Clinging to the sides of the glass. Moderate lacing.

Aroma is moderately intense with a sweet malty odor mingling with a sharp and dry sourish scent. Sweet pale malts and bread. Hint of sugar. Sour grains and a bit of citrus. Dry vibe.

Medium strong carbonation. Thin, watery, lively and tingling texture.

Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a slightly stronger bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a light sweet undertone. Lingers for a while. Finish is rather dry.

Not exactly legendary - but decent pilsner.

Wernesgruner Pils Legende half liter cans in a four-pack purchase at Aldi. Carlsberg brews this in Germany. It tastes like the bargain beer it is. It is beery, with about the right level of bitter hops and almost enough malt body. It's not too bad. But it's a German Pilsner that reminds me more of an American adjunct lager from the late 60s when I started drinking. For some reason Lucky Lager (before S&P purchased it) and Blitz Weinhard come to mind.
