Adorable 8 oz can

Pours opaque black, dark tan ring for a head.

Aroma of fig, brandy, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla.

Flavor is of cake, cinnamon, cocoa, coffee bean, brown sugar, a bit of fig and grape, and oak.

Full body, stinging carbonation, warms a bit going down.

Third out of four for me so far and the best one yet. Rich, decadent, slow drinking, and well balanced. On the sweet side but not cloying. Would have this one again.

So I LOVE that this is in a 6oz can. High abv beers in low volume mean I can try more. Awesome on you birdfish and crooked tongue! I want to hate that its $6.29 for 6oz but in reality I spend $12-13 for a 12oz without batting a eye if it intrigues me.

Another forward before I try this. I live basically between these two breweries. Birdfish brews some great sours but I've been phenomenally let down and almost felt robbed by everything else they've brewed considering their cost (they suck at brewing ipas and charge ~$18/4 pack for drain pours).

Crooked tongue I have limited experience with (6-7 beers) but all have blown me away.

If this beer was pure birdfish I wouldn't have bought it. But having crooked tongue involved gives me high hopes to continue pursuing both breweries.

L - first off this borderline exploded when I cracked it. It wasnt agitated so pray this doesn't have some sort of infection. I quickly managed to get it into a glass before erupting all over.

Pours nice. Thick and dark
Had a voluptuous fizzy head that i.was almost sure was going to overflow my 12oz snifter but just barely stayed contained. The head quickly settled and left a small ring of froth atop an oily black inviting ink.

Smell is SPECTACULAR. It smells like BCBS with just a HINT of wine (duh, brandy aged). Rich and potent. Overwhelming dark fruits and brown sugar.

Taste is stellar. I HATE wine barrel aged beers despite being a junky for any sort of whiskey barrel aged beers. This beer brings so much wine/brandy into the beer without it being sour/tart/astringent. It's literally like BCBS that was briefly put into a wine barrel. Its everything in hoped that goose island brasserie noir was going to be but ended up hating.

Feel is solid. I let this warm for 45 minutes out of the fridge before opening but it still feels a bit light. Its NOT thin but it's not quite as big as I feel it should be for the intense flavors.

Overall - if this were a $13 12oz beer it would be worth it. Being more conveniently packaged I'm a 6oz beer I will definitely revisit. Oh how sad I am in missed out on the bourbon barrel aged version.

Glossy black with a thicker, creamier mocha head than the Maple Bourbon version, settling to a creamy ring.

Having this side by side with the Maple Bourbon version provides a really drastic contrast. This version bombards you with big, gooey marshmallow and an underlying hot cocoa character up front, especially on the nose. Yet on the palate, the brandy cuts through with a woodier, more spirit-forward progression, ending with some nutty nougat.

The barrel impression here also assists in producing a lighter, finer body with a crisper carbonation that comes to a semi-dry finish. This really comes across like it's been produced a brewery that's been doing this much longer than either Birdfish or Crooked Tongue have--very well made!
