12 oz bottle, two years aged
Pours dark brown, hazy red glow when held to light. No head.
Smells of caramel, toffee, and tart raspberry.
Flavor is caramel, oak, toffee, tart and bitter raspberry, hint of vinegar, and boozy notes.
Full body, bit syrupy, with a sting of carbonation on the tongue and warmth going down.
Slow-drinking, not overly rich but heavy, good raspberry flavor makes the malts interesting. The only thing I don't like is the alkaline bitterness. It's not hoppy, obviously so at this age. I'm not sure if it's from the raspberry or perhaps a bad bottle. There's a really good barleywine hiding behind it so it's a shame it overshadows that. I also have a 2017 bottle to try soon, it's aged on different fruit so it we'll see if the raspberry is the culprit.
