Served on tap in a sample glass.

Appearance: Dark brown almost black. Beige head with mild lacing on the glass.

Smell: Mild coffee and malts.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth full bodied. Taste of coffee some mild bitter hops and malts.

Overall: Ok stout, probably would have again.

1.5 finger head with good retention and lacing on a jet black body. Aroma of roasted malt and pretty much nothing else. Flavor is so incredibly simple with hint of milk chocolate and otherwise the rest is roasted malts. Medium body and light to moderate carbonation. One of the simplest beers I have ever had. Good but unimaginative.

a: This was black and was served to me with a thick, dark tan head.

s: I just couldn't find much here, just a whiff of roasty malt.

t: I got a little more in the flavor department, but not much. Clean roasty malt with just a hint of something bitter at the finish.

m: Creamy mouthfeel, the best part of this.

d: Not bad, just kind of bland.

On-tap at A1A Aleworks. Pours a dark black color with a large light tan colored head. The aroma is dark roasted malts with some coffee as well. This one packs a very solid aroma. The taste is roasted malt with a faint sweetness lingering in the background along with a smooth roastiness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Overall, this is definitely one of the better beers from A1A. If you can only get two beers from this brewpub, I would definitely recommend the Stout and the Red Brick Ale. Both are solid brews that are worth a shot.

Part of sampler set at brewery on 03/17/2005.

Poured black color with small tan head that mostly lasted with fair lacing.

Aroma was a medium roasted malt and caramel tone.

The flavor was roasted malt and sweet tone of a stout but seemed brewed as a more drinkable general brew.

Medium body with a Creamy texture.

Drinkable soft version.

On-tap at the A1A Ale house. Pours black with a rocky head and some decent lacing. Smells very malty and there are aromas of some sorrt of adjunct like blackstrap molasses. Nutty as well, and there may be a touch of pears there at the end. Interesting. Very tasty brew. Lots of licorice and blacksstrap molasses, some roastiness, and quite smooth. The mouthfeel is a trifle sour from the licorice and grain, but firm, smooth, and with just enough sweetness to balance things. Fairly interesting interpretation, but I wouldn't call this world class by any stretch. Still, I definitely enjoyed this beer.
