Five different types of malt provide both body and color to this richly tinted amber ale. Perle and tettnang hops are used for bitterness and flavor, and cascade and centennial hops provide citrus and pine like notes to contribute to aroma.

Overall, this is a good, well-balanced, characterful amber ale and I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was given that it is Waikiki and the whole area is very touristy. It had a nice, firm toasty-caramelly maltiness and mild sweetness balanced with earthy-woody firm but restrained hop. It was great alone or with food.

The color is dark amber and clear. Small head that settles to a fine layer of light beige bubbles. One initial ring of lace, spots thereafter.
Interesting blend of raw grain and toasted malt. Light hop in the background.
The taste starts with a darker flavor than the smell lets on. The hop is more biting than the smell as well. Highly carbonated but with a decent body. Aftertaste is like a darker white toast with a peppery hop finish.

Fresh and juicy, grainy brew. Lots of caramel; toasty grains throughout, balanced with a decent (but restrained) dose of hops. Nice finish. A very tasty brew in an under-appreciated style.
