Sampling a cellar temp 2024 vintage Batch #09. 12 oz bottle picked up at a beer store in southcentral PA.
Pouring into my trusty snifter.
the beer pours a rich mahogany color with some ruby highlights.
Pretty dense khaki colored head of 1.5 com foams up and slowly fades to a sturdy edge layer. this edging remains throughout my sampling of the beer.
Aroma on this beer is some molasses and brown sugar, hits of bourbon notes and vanilla, a good amount of fusol booze and a little bit of dark fruit. Boozy note is pretty dominant and reminds me that this is a higher ABV beer. Not really any hop presence that I can detect.
First sip reveals a medium body and slightly sticky texture, with very soft, fine carbonation. There is a bit of coating on my palate with each sip.
Flavor is similar to the nose, molasses and brown sugar up front, some sweet bourbon and then a good hit of black pepper bite booziness. Definitely some warmth on the swallow as well. This is a big beer that drinks bigger than it is.
Im glad to have tried it, but there isnt a ton of depth on the flavor or nose. Good enough as a night cap, but there are better options on the shelves.
