Double IPA with Pineapple and Mango. Blending mango and pineapple together, this Double IPA does not taste like its ABV. On the sweeter side for a DIPA with a huge tropical hop nose. Flavors of fresh pineapple and mango juice make this milkshake DIPA highly palatable. 23 IBUs.

This may seem counterintuitive, but thanks to my long hours at work & drinking less as a result, I am finding more beers in my backlog that I want to drink! Aldus is a small brewery in (relatively) nearby Hanover & I have been buying their bottles (gasp!) on occasion, usually to fill out a mixed sixer. It suddenly struck me that I have enough for a brewery horizontal, of which this will be the fifth.
From the Bottle (oh my!): "India Pale Ale with Pineapple, Mango and Guava."; "Through 50 iterations off the central finite curve, there's an IPA that works more with fruit, than with polarity plating. Its name is Little Hula Girl, and she's anything but little. We realized long ago, the greatest beer we'd ever create would be the one in your hand right now. Welcome home to the impossible flavor of your own completion. Welcome home to Little Hula Girl."
Welcome home, indeed! I had a few little (and not so little) hula girls of my own while a Navy sailor, so when I saw this beer on the shelf at Rieker Bottle Works, I knew that I had to take her home. Musical accompaniment? Iggy Pop's "[Little] China Girl", followed by David Bowie's cover!
I Pop!ped off the cap & started a heavy-handed aggro pour since it was identified as "milkshake". I got two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head for my efforts, followed by very good retention before leaving a load of lacing by which to remember it. Color was a murky, turbid Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose was highly tropical with pineapple at the forefront and mango & guava bringing up the rear. Okay, but it seems like I have had this before. Was the result of their experimentation to be a recreation of someone else's beer? Mouthfeel was big, full & creamy, like a dollop had been scooped into my mouth & onto my tongue. The taste was an interesting mélange of tropical fruit flavors, but I did not feel like it was anything new or different. Loads of pineapple with a buttressing mango/guava tartness, but still not a wow! Finish was semi-sweet, definitely masking its alcohol, but I just wasn't feeling this one. Sorry. YMMV.
