From a Grenade glass 1st Republic likes to call their "growlettes," this was poured into a becher first then a 1st Republic mason jar, just cause.
The appearance was a beautiful "berry" meshing of red, purple and blue array of colors, really cool to me, different but yes, cool. Light cap of white foamy head softly dissipating to leave some modest lace.
The aroma had a wonderful amalgamation of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, red raspberries, some citrus pulp and a light berry seed-like tone lightly sliding in underneath.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet end of the berries I already mentioned. Tartness seemed to try to make a decent effort to come in and bring forth that "seed-like" quality. Gentle aftertaste of berries, berry seed and citrus pulp.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair crushing ability to allow me to annihilate this grenade if I wanted to. However, I tried to sip just so I could get to know this beer the way I wanted to. Carbonation felt good but also allowed a fair thickness of the body itself to carry with its projected ABV. Mellow finish of berries that I already mentioned.
Overall, I can see why they called this one "Everything But the Thorns" as I believe they must have squished as many different types of berries as they could into this thing. What is impressive is that no seeds were actually seen at all in the appearance. I think Shawn Trout is nuts if he doesn't can this beer but then again this was a practically perfect beer for today.
