Collaboration saison with Adroit Theory. Brewed with "Southern Hemisphere hops, blueberries, and thai basil." Sounds very interesting, if not appealing.
Pours a hazy OJ color, looks like a lot of the NE IPA's actually. Smells like a saison with basil for sure. I was hoping the basil would take a back seat, but is very prominent on the nose.
This beer is a relatively boozy saison upfront, with some nondescript fruity hops and belgian esters. No blueberries anywhere, but there is a touch of tartness. It's all basil on the back end. I think it's a bit overpowering personally, leaving a leafy, floral, basil aftertaste.
I wanted more blueberry and more tropical hoppy goodness. Still a decent beer, but something isn't quite clicking. It's got a lot going on, and the ingredients I were excited about are hidden by the basil.
Not my favorite Pale Fire beer by a long shot, but I'm glad they brewed it, and maybe the can try it again and amp up the blueberries?
