As the trends of beer to shift away from the common notions of what beer tastes like, and toward candied, pastry and dessert-like flavors, it was only time before those flavors shift toward sorbet- you know, for those who "don't like beer".
Ruby pink and floating a short and foamy white cap, Raspberry Sorbet Ale reels in the nose with a vanilla accented raspberry scent upon command. With a soft backdrop of tartness, citrus, candy and cream, the scent quickly shifts to a sweeter taste of taffy, cream candy and milkshake.
As the sweetness gives way, the fruitiness tightens into a raspberry filled middle palate along with hints of lemon, lime, green apple, white grape and gooseberry. Trending drying and tart, the ale proves to be a refreshing choice. Wrapped in a cocoon of vanilla, the sourness is buffered for a seltzer-like session.
Light, brisk and refreshing in finish, the ale is a simplistic take on the kettle sour technique decorated with raspberries and cream- nice enough for a thirst quencher but not enough depth or charm to entice the seasoned sour ale appreciator. A quick aftertaste of berry and sourdough allows for one brief echo in a fast fleeting taste.
