9/22/18 (Elk Grove Village): $14.43 12 oz draft Mikerphone round glass pour, 11.2% ABV. Pitch black pour, tan ring around the glass. Nice blended aroma, bourbon and vanilla. Strong vanilla taste, bourbon follows. Bourbon well masked, exposed over time, nice kick! Creamy mouth feel, very smooth drinking. No carbonation, sweet aftertaste. Overall excellent bourbon barreled offering!

Appearance: Arrives obsidian colored with a thin beige head; a few squiggles of lacing

Smell: Rich milk chocolate with vanilla all over; the rye barrel is detectable but not prominent

Taste: Sweet milk chocolate flavors forward with the vanilla emerging; the rye barrel builds, distinctively, with the spicy aspect that is so different from Bourbon; the finish leans heavily to the sweet side

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; some warmth

Overall: A good beer but I found it to be too sweet and lacked the creamy mouthfeel of a top-ranking Imperial Stout

Poured out as a nice dark brown color, basically black. The smell of the beer is loaded with vanilla and bourbon aromas. The taste has a very nice blend of vanilla, rye, and chocolate. The feel of the beer is medium to full bodied. Overall it's a very nice beer, really happy to have gotten to try it too.

On tap at the brewery- Elk Grove Village, IL.
Black body with a creamy tan head. Great barrel aged aroma fills the nose with booze, oak, vanilla, and a ton toasted coconut. Very sweet flavors: dark cocoa, lots of vanilla and toasted coconut, woody oak, and booze; the earthy rye comes through more in the finish; marshmallow? I'm also getting marshmallow - must be the vanilla. Full body, cloyingly sweet and sticky, carbonation is lower. This has dessert beer written all over it. Too sweet for me, hence the lower overall score. On a positive side, it does have a good flavor profile with nice complexity.

Tan head. Black color.

An amazing blend of vanilla and bourbon. Sweet, fudgy, warming bourbon. Oaky. Smooth. Chocolate and richness. Wow, this surprised me. Full bodied and nice carbonation level. Impressive.

Tasted in a tumbler from draft at the Mikerphone Brewing tap room on September 28, 2018. Imperial rye stout brewed with vanilla and lactose then aged in Buffalo Trace Rye Whiskey Barrels. Recommended.

On draft at brewery; 12 oz pour.

Black body with a thin brown cap. Aroma of marshmallows and rye, not smelling much bourbon. Nice balanced flavors of marshmallows and rye with chocolate undertones. Very mellow bourbon notes, you really gotta look for it. Medium bodied stout with adequate carbonation. The barrel aged beer is thinner than the base stout. The mouthfeel of the base stout is superior to the barrel aged version. Base beer was thicker and also had a silky texture.

Love the 4 pack format of this beer, but its not worth the $60 price tag before tax. This is on the same level as BCBS Vanilla rye, but has a thinner mouthfeel.
