500ml bottle poured into Durobar Charente glass.
Appearance: Dark black bodied beer with dark black cap of head. Eventually drops to no head at all. Thick legs left behind with each sip.
Smell: Bourbon forward nose that brings a smooth and spicy bourbon that for whatever reason is a really satisfying smell. Chocolate & cherry. Mature oak. Distinct Cherry Coco cola aromas. Just as enjoyable to sip as it is to smell.
Taste: Dark chocolate covered cordial cherries soaked in bourbon with a leathery, cherry cola, & oak finish. Rich, complex, balanced, smooth flavors here. Yes, it's as sexy as it sounds.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied stout that's not quite pastry thick. Low and adequate carbonation. This is a really smooth old school barrel aged stout.
Overall: It seems like the world needs more Eagle Rare barrel aged stouts. Recently had More Mendhi Special Reserve which was aged in Eagle Rare barrels & that beer absolutely wowed me. This stout from Mikerphone also really wowed me; the more it opened up the better it got. No booze harshness at all even at room temperature. I really don't go crazy for Mikerphone stouts, but this barrel aged stout with no adjuncts is really special. The showcase is the barrel & it's on full display in all it's glory. I love sipping on Eagle Rare bourbon neat & this barrel aged stout does a true testament to the magic of Eagle Rare bourbon.
