Thanks goes out to Buck89 for this brew.

16 oz. Can
Canned On: 11/08/17

Poured into a Tree House glass a pretty nice cloudy orangy color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice thick/creamy one-finger plus white head, which also leaves some pretty nice creamy sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, malty, with a pretty nice citrus complex (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, mango, peach), pretty nice diesel like, really picking up on the Citra. Medium body, ABV hidden very well, with a nice little dry/bitter finish. Overall, a very tasty brew and another from BI. Addictive! Orange Julius! Thanks John!

Poured into a snifter. A moderately hazy amber-orange color with a modest white head. Nice retention and lacing in the glass. Huge aroma from just cracking open the can - tropical fruit, guava, some berries, and resin - not obviously Citra but definitely a brighter aroma than in the regular Homestyle. The Citra was more prevalent on the palate up front, but it gave way to the familiar Mosaic notes with berries and a dank quality. A slight citrus presence on the finish. Gentle warming from the alcohol and a fairly soft feel. Overall a great variation on their signature series.

Pours an orange-copper body, a shade darker than what I'm used to in the Homestyle/Double Homestyle family, with a significant chill haze but none of the turbid, pulpy consistency of many other BI beers. Tons of carbonation. Finger of off-white head that held around reasonable well and provided slotted lacing down the glass.

Aromas leap out of the can even before the pour. My takeaways are bright yet dank herbaciousness, guava, mixed berry jam, biscuit and damp grass, grapefruit, lemon/lime, and a little pine resin. Want to emphasize the dankness, as that's huge. And as the beer warms slightly, the candied fruit aromas are robust.

Taste is solid as IIPAs go, but it's below-average for a BI beer. There's a lot of greenness, and the aftertaste is a combination of light malt, bitter citrus pith, and an oniony funk, which is not great. But between the initial astringency and back-end muddle, there are waves of lemon, pine, citrus, wheat, and a lot of grapefruit rind. (Follow-up note: with a little bit of age on it, the semi-unpleasant notes of onion and greenness drop off completely, leaving a resin- and tropical citrus-heavy, semi-sweet flavor profile that is much more appealing than the first go-round.)

Feel is soft and silky with plenty of carbonation, but perhaps a little thin. Just the right amount of stickiness to coast the tongue and teeth. I just wish the back-end flavors that lingered were more appealing.

I've been a little disappointed (relatively speaking) with the Double Homestyle family given BI's fantastic flagship beer and their great work in the IIPA category. And the Citra DDH isn't adding positively to the base product flavor, though you could argue the intent is to add additional notes to the aroma profile, which it does. But in a growing portfolio of outstanding BI offerings, this isn't one I would seek out again. Perhaps that's more a statement of the quality of BI's other offerings than of the absolute quality of this particular beer on its own.

L- Milkshake x West Coast IPA x Apple Cider
S- Lemon, Pineapple, Mango, Guava, Clementine, Fennel
T- Like carbonated Five Alive mixed with cracked pepper
F- Extremely balanced for a DDHDIPA. Hops in full effect without going overboard. Like a perfectly executed Cacio e Pepe
O- Clearly BIBCO’s piece de la resistance thus far. My tongue feels like it spent 5 hours on a landline phone with this beer and can’t come to terms with who is going to hang up first.
