Breakfast Sour with Peanut Butter, Apricot, Coconut, Cinnamon, & Lactose.
16 oz can, dated 8/19/20, into EBC Teku.
Looks like electrified OJ, but with no head whatsoever. One of the juiciest beers I've seen but could use some head retention in a big way.
I can smell the peanut butter and coconut, like a chic-o-stick, but it's underneath more fruity notes of grapefruit, apricot, and orange. Some juiciness and slight pine can be sampled as well.
Flavor is definitely sour bacteria first. Trying to pick out the flavors proves a little challenging, but with further sips I get some descriptors. Sour apricot, peach rings, mango, red grapefruit, and to a much lesser degree slight Butterfinger BB's, vanilla, and cinnamon. Has an aftertaste of what I'd call toasted peanut butter.
Feel is juicy and acidic with some creaminess throughout, a moderate harsh carbonation, lots of acidity on the finish. No alcohol heat.
Overall, I really am a fan of Bearded Iris' basic sour profiles - they're not bashful and are absolutely FULL of flavor and pucker. In that regard they are sippers and last awhile, so they're great values. This beer however flavorful it is, is a bit muddled, all the flavors giving way to more of a basic tropical citrus/coconut flavor. It's a good beer, but I wish the flavors were more pronounced and played better with each other. It almost seems gimmicky with all the adjuncts listed on the front. Its better than a gimmick, but stops short of what you'd expect.
Price paid : $16.99 / 4 pack
