Vessel: Schooner at Bat & Ball Hotel, Redfern NSW before a Sydney FC game.
Appearance: Looks very similar to the Philter XPA I had prior to this. Maybe ever so a hint darker. Classic golden straw lager look. Lots of carbonation streaming to the top of the beer that leaves a half centimetre of frothy white head. Good lacing on the glass after a couple of sips.
Aroma: Light citrus pine, pale malt, slight chemical smell, although it could be the citrus pine notes making me think of Ajax Spray & Wipe. Not sure if that's the beer or the glass.
Taste: Smooth and somewhat creamy. My brain is telling me there's Pride of Ringwood hops in there, but I'm not 100% sure. The creaminess is a surprise to find in a lager. Floral hop notes, combined with the creaminess from the malt make a really refreshing and drinkable flavour that leaves you going back for more.
Feel: I think the ABV is only 4.2, but for a lager it's not watery or that thin. The creaminess helps with the mouthfeel. Good carbonation. It's quite moreish.
Overall: I'm really pleasantly surprised by this beer. I was last in Byron Bay in in 2009 when I was 18 and remember drinking Byron Bay Blonde which I enjoyed back then, but this is a really good, drinkable lager. Very easy drinking, good flavours, refreshing. I'd certainly have this again and might pick a carton up over Xmas for Xmas lunch.

$11 AUD per 570ml "pint" at P.J. O'Brien's, Cairns, Australia.
Smooth and creamy, well carbonated yet refreshing. 2-row/blonde malt drives it.
Not a mind blowing beer, but it's a robust well-balanced albeit simplistic clean drinking lager that does the trick in the Queensland heat.
High C+ / ABOVE AVERAGE
