A truepenny: one both trusty and honest. This Belgian-style Pilsner delivers on its promise of refreshment with a classic grain bill and noble hops. It distinguishes itself with a hint of wild beer, blended for balance. A beer that refreshes while it delights, a Truepenny.

Clear, golden color. Big, white head. Malt , grass, and light fruity notes in the aroma. Crisp, malty taste. Pleasant, hoppy bitterness. Well done

Hazy unfiltered golden body. Crisp crackery malt, mild distinctly floral noble hop bite. The yeast adds a slight bit of distinct fruitiness, sort of like a wit, but not so dry or sweet. Medium lighter body, good carb, mild floral bitterness lingers.

Cloudy yellow pour with a white head and light lacing. Smell is pretty standard with grassy old world hops atop bread, malt and yeast. Classic expressive yeast leads giving off tones of flowers, bread, and biscuit, malt and a grassy hop kiss round out. Crisp, light, medium toned body with again a yeastiness that is pleasant for the feel. Nice classic rendition of the style. Went well with cheese curds

From the can, it pours a lightly hazy yellow color with a modest, soon diminishing head that does leave some spotty lacing. In the nose, it is grain and a touch of hops. In the mouth, it is more of a lager than a pils - cereal grains predominate, with a light hop presence.

Faded sunshine yellow in color with unfiltered hazy appearance. Low head retention. Light pilsner malt aromas with a light fruity sweetness. Medium carbonation with a crisp, semi-dry feel and finish. Pilsner malt flavors with light sweet apple and pear flavors and medium light bitterness. Quite different than the typical German pilsner. Very tasty.

Allagash Truepenny Pilsner, Belgian style. Even before the pour, the aroma announces this is an Allagash brew. Very familiar yeast aroma profile. Big, but brief. Pours clear golden color, huge white foamy head and it does cling. Falls to a ring. Steady bubbles from the bottom.

Grainy sweet on the aroma, some fruity notes of white grape, estery and herbal hops, maybe a bit floral. Earthy.

The taste is very pleasant, but it isn't dead on point for a pilsner. The Belgian character brings it outside the realm of most pilsners, in my opinion, and the taste is not the typical clean and crisp associated with the style. Sweet malts, fruity white wine, the Allagash Belgian signature yeast profile. A bit of lemon on the finish that I miss in the smell. Nicely earthy, appropriately hopped.

The feel is a touch heavy for a pilsner. Carbonation is moderate. Not as clean and refreshing as most beers in this style.

Overall, I enjoy the beer but it is a bit of a miss in the true to style category. It is a tasty beer, however. I'm not a style maniac, so I can acknowledge the miss, shrug my shoulders, and move on. Worth a try, but don't expect a "true" pilsner.

Two of my big, fat fingers worth of creamy, frothy head forms over a pale straw body that is just the slightest bit murky. Nose is cereal grain and light, floral hops. It looks and smells like a grown-up version of the cheap beer I grew up on. Tastes like it too. Cracker-y with a light, lingering bitter hop presence. Pleasant soft, creamy mouthfeel with a bit of a dry finish is without a doubt the highlight of this beverage. A good, if a bit unremarkable, beer.

Pours a med frothy 1/2 finger head with moderate retention, bit of lacing, mostly clear pale golden straw color

Nose brings grainy sweet malt, a bit of pilsner malt and straw, light honey and sweet malt, sweet like candi sugar almost, faint fruity boo real hop character

Taste more grainy sweet pilsner malt, blond lager malt and little straw, cereal, some fruity esters and mild sweet candy malt, little honey, some sweet candied fruit and citrus, light herbal hops and light bitterness up front, then med bitterness with herbal flavor on med dry finish little sticky and soft, not really crisp but being a Belgian pilsner I guess that's ok

Mouth is med bod soft lager, med foamy carb

Overall a decent beer, enjoyable lager, not quite sure what a Belgian pilsner should come with so can't really knock stylistic flaws
