Purchased at the brewery on 7/20, consumed on 7/21.
The beer pours exceptionally clear, kind of a purple tinted, deep golden color. It had 3/4 if an inch of foam that didn't persist, but did leave a ring of small bubbles around the glass.
The smell is fruity, bright, tea-like, restrained on the esters. Mildly sweet, vague berry smell.
The taste follows, opening with mild acidity and a bit of a tannin bite, ever so slight. The berry fruity side comes in, black currant if you say so as it is a bit vague. Tea notes are present, which I find associates pretty often with berries. The Belgian esters fly above this, not super strong and seemingly tempered a bit by the fruit.
The feel is light, drying, refreshing. Clean with minimal lingering aftertaste. Not super carbonated, yet lively enough.
I like this beer. It is a bit different, I dig the flavor and feel. I think it is executed well because it could have been an overblown mess, so kudos for restraint. I think it suffers a bit in the fruit identity - I have worked with black currants before and they don't have the "here I am" flavor of a raspberry. But using more would have been a mistake.
