Draft at the brewery
Big frothy foamy 2 finger head with good retention, streaming bubbles, semi clear orange color
Nose cereal grainy malt, little straw, saison doughy wheat, floral spice notes, light lemony, hint of white grape
Taste big cereal grain, straw, bready doughy wheat like saison, some Brett funk farmhouse saison, light citrus lemongrass like, floral phenol spices, fruity white wine but very little, lighter bitterness, lemon zest, very dry finish,
Mouth is med bod, very high effervescent carb

Nothing but good things to say about this beer. Allagash needs to bring it back!

On tap at the brewery
I decided to make a spontaneous trip up to Maine today to visit both Allagash and Sacred Profane! I plan on taking quite a few bottles back from here, but I just had to sit down for a few pours as well. Let’s see what this Saison with chardonnay grapes is all about
Pours a clear pale straw with 2 fingers of creamy white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing, a ton of carbonation streaming from the bottom of the glass as well
It’s super zesty in the nose with a nice fruity tartness. I’m picking up on aromas of tart white grape, stone, floral hops, honey, crackery malt, tannic white wine, light pear, and orange zest
The wine grape is amplified in taste, resulting in a beautifully balanced beer. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting tart white grape, tannic white wine, lemon zest, apple skin, wildflower honey, white pepper, floral hops, and light cracker. The swallow brings notes of tannic white wine, stone, floral hops, wildflower honey, pear skin, bready malt, and light orange zest
A light medium body pairs with moderate carbonation, resulting in a crisp and zesty beer. Finishes mostly dry with a nice fruity bite
I really enjoyed this one. What a treat to come try Allagash directly from the source!
