500ml on-draught @ the brewpub for 165 baht.
4.2-4.5% ABV. English porter. Brewed with challenger and East Kent goldings hops.
HEAD: None. No lacing.
BODY: Dark brown-black, more a cola colour than a porter one. No yeast can be seen within. Opaque.
AROMA: Dark bread, cola, hazelnut, chocolate malt, cookie dough. Aromatic intensity is average. Doesn't suggest a robust porter. Seems a bit too sweet.
TASTE & TEXTURE: Chocolate malts but no (other) dark malts. Brown bread/dark bread character is present, bending this more towards the flavour profile of a schwarzbier or dunkel/Tmavy.
Smooth, wet, medium-bodied, artificially soft (accompanying the saccharine sweetness), overcarbonated. There's not an ideal harmony of texture and taste here.
Crystal malts thin out this weak porter. Not at all robust. I find none of the coffee flavour they claim this features.
OVERALL: It's a nice change of pace from the mediocrity usually sold in Thailand, but as far as regionally available dark beer goes, Beerlao is a better choice. And this just isn't a competitive expression of a porter in terms of the international arena. I'm glad to see some smaller more interesting breweries pop up in Thailand, but this needs work.

A great porter. Hints of chocolate and fairly strong in malts. Very dark with a medium head that disappears slowly. Refreshing and quite strong. Lots of carbonation, but not overpowering. I'd get this one again.
