FORMAT: 12 fl oz pull-tab can with a minimalist label design (lots of white space). Canned 01/29/19.
"Double dry hopped India Pale Ale." "Citra 100%." 7.1% ABV.
Served cold into a nonic pint glass.
APPEARANCE: Off-white head ~6cm in height. Hazy orange-copper body.
No yeast/lees are visible within.
AROMA: Muted. I don't really pick up on much. I guess some faint floral hop character?
Quite a light aroma...uncommonly so.
TASTE: Orange pulp. Tangerine. A hint of cool tropical fruit - maybe guava? 2-row barley/pale pale malt.
It's definitely balanced, but it does lack depth of hop flavour. Not as hop-emphatic as an IPA should be, but very enjoyable to drink.
TEXTURE: Soft, smooth, wet, medium-bodied, refreshing, and well-carbonated. Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, or scratchy.
Suits the taste well but fails to accentuate specific flavours or to elevate the beer as a whole.
OVERALL: Drinkable and enjoyable, though it fails to showcase Citra to the extent one would hope in a 100% Citra hopped beer. For a double dry hopped beer, it's surprisingly wanting in terms of aroma...if dry hopping is for aroma only, why is this so tame in that respect?
It's nice work from Tupps, but the quality just isn't there to justify the $13.99/sixer pricetag. Above average, certainly, but a vastly superior IPA like Racer 5 costs less and is more widely available.
