“The palaces of Montezuma, the gardens of Akbar’s tomb, I give to you...”
Generously hopped with Citra and Nelson Sauvin, this 5.8% unfiltered Pale Lager was brewed with the gang from Right Proper Brewing Company to commemorate our good buddy Phil Runco’s upcoming wedding!
With a kiss of malted rye in the grist, Palaces of Montezuma is designed to be the lager cousin to our IPA Home.

Ok-this is an IPL if anything, especially given the description: generous Citra and Nelson...
Also ultra hazy for a lager, it looks like your average Ocelot IPA, especially their early work that used a lot of light malts. Head is very strong, as its lasting lace patterns. Mixed feelings on appearance category.
Nose somehow comes across as a dull peach, which I’m trying to piece together given the hops. Maybe some citrus pith with a more white wine grape interrupted by the touch of rye?
Taste is way heavier than I’d expect for a lager - medium plus. It is a fairly clean opening dirtied by the hops - citrus pith, a hint of tropical that is unripe or is the bitterest parts, like the skin. A little grape leave and an unexpected bite of rye, given the description’s downplaying of it.
An interesting and fairly enjoyable beer, but I’d assume it was an IPA if not otherwise told. Tasty and quite enjoyable but strikes me as mis-styled (pale lager on Ocelot menu) at least slightly.
