Somewhere, deep in some remote forest, drops of piney purple sap drip from trees bearing some kind of unique and never seen before fruit. Not having tasted such a fruit, we set out to brew a beer inspired by its peculiar purple piney-ness. We imagined biting through supple purple skin, exposing juicy hazy golden flesh, and instantly experiencing pungent citrus, pine, and passionfruit represented by mounds of sticky Simcoe hops. Metaphorically, heaps of Strata hops peek through the pines with hints of ripened berries and plump buds of cannabis. Imagine with us!

Can shared. Vibrant yellow color, frothy head. Citrus aroma. Crisp citrus flavor, mildly dry. Hop level medium to high. Nice.

Levante Brewing Co. "Purple Pine Drops"
16 fl. oz. can coded "DROP IT LIKE ITS HOPS 10:53 #1176"
$5.75 @ Kunda Beverage, King of Prussia, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: Looking at the name I immediately thought of Strata hops because they somehow remind me of the color purple (the color not the movie), but they could've just as well been Zappa. That's the purple side of things. As to the pine I'd have thought of Chinook but Simcoe works, and to be honest I have no idea how they came up with the name of this beer but that's what popped into my mind. It's a hazy straw gold in color beneath a finger's width of white foam that seems to be holding well. In the nose I'm getting sweetish and grainy malt, pine, "dank" hop resins, passion fruit, berries, and citrus. The taste follows with a similar maltiness but more fruit in the hop notes. There's some grapefruit and apple as well as everything previously mentioned, and some subtle pineapple. It's bright and lively in both the aroma and flavor. A moderate, stiff bitterness runs through it and balances it in the end with some "hop burn" and resins that linger. It's an interesting beer that's got a lot of hop character but remains fairly light at 5.5%. It's "juicy" but it's not orange juice "juicy". In the mouth it's medium bodied on the lower end, and gently crisp but with a little bit of burn from the hop acids. The head held up well but the lacing was limited, although I suspect that perhaps this isn't a "beer clean" glass as I'm at work and not at home. At the end of the day this is a charming beer that's easy drinking but also loaded with hop character.

Pours regular cloudy IPA yadayada, they all look the same, aroma to me was faint, I get super citrus, but not enough nose, taste was fine, a little citrus, not real hoppy, no aftertaste or pine. Okay. But for 20 bucks for 4, way overpriced.
