From Levante Brewing's website: We kettle-soured the base to impart that refreshingly tart zing that compliments an unprecedented amount of Mango puree for a sweet, tropical finish. An added rush of tangerine brings forth some sweet and citrusy notes that bring you back in for another sip. True to style, a pinch of Himalayan Sea Salt aids in puckering up your tastebuds to make the next sip even more thirst-quenching than the first.
Pours a cloudy pale yellow with some particulates floating about. Head vanishes in quick order, leaving little wisps of lace. Smells oddly citrusy; tangerines, in particular, to the point where they pretty much obscure everything else. The label says they used citra hops (why?! well, so they could charge $19/4-pack- DUH), and that may be contributing to the overwhelming citrus overtones. Taste is a total letdown. I love a good standard gose, but this is about as far removed as you can get whilst still staying in the style. It's mildly tart, which is fine, but the flavor is all fruit. Like, orange and mango (but mostly orange) juice straight from the bottle. It's way too sweet for the style. I don't really detect much salt, either. Rather flat carbonation makes this drink heavier than it is. Man, experimentation is cool and all, but I'm getting awful sick of paying premium prices for mediocre beer. I can get an entire case of Yuengling (my cheap-o go-to) for an extra $2 and enjoy it infinitely more.
EDIT: After revisiting this I can't help but feel like my initial review is too harsh. In the interest of fairness, this tastes objectively good; it just doesn't taste like a gose, which is what I wanted and paid for. Raising my scores, but not too much because it's still kind of false advertising.
