A Basic west coast IPA. Some hop and maltiness but nothing outside the lines. Would like see Levante put a hazy level effort into this west coast.

Not bad. Simple, straightforward, American/ West Coast IPA. I like better than most of their beers (which tend to be fruitier, hazier than my more legacy craft preference)

Exuberant carbonation, more than expected from a West Coast style IPA, caused a foamy spillage once a pint can was cracked open. Surprisingly, the pour was very reasonable, with only a modest off-white head created, when the entire contents were emptied into a clear glass liter mug. The brew is brightly and lightly copper-amber in color and not at all hazy. There's some piney hops in the aroma and it brings a little maltiness, too. Although there's some hops to the flavor, they're not all that tasty. There's a certain peculiar taste, hard to define, that isn't as distinctive as good ones in this style. Perhaps it's just the combination of hops used that makes this slightly off-putting. They're sharply defined but bring less character than ideal. For lack of a better reference, think Red Label to Black Label Johnnie Walker Scotch whiskey. It could be the quality of the hops, or the brewing time, but this tastes unfinished. Although there's little glass lacing, the malt flavor and mouthfeel contributions are good, albeit a little thin. This doesn't measure up to a good IPA and certainly can't pass the scrutiny of a high standard West Coast style, but it's OK.
