750mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 16.99. No apparent bottling date. Served in a Barrel and Barley teku.
Pours a nearly-opaque rose amber with a quickly vanishing two fingers of manilla foam. A couple lingering wisps decorate the surface but neither collar nor lacing remain.
Notes of sour cherry and other stone fruits immediately greet my nose. Toasted oak, vinegar, wine, earth and sugar. That's pretty nice.
Tastes of strongly sour apple skins, tart cherry, earthy leather, funky wet oak, cooked caramel and old hay. It's pleasantly sour and easy to drink.
Medium body with peppery carbonation. Dry, acidic finish with sour cherry, stone fruit and barrel funk.
Another mighty solid wild ale from Southern Brewing. Cecil is sour, refreshing and layered enough to keep it interesting throughout.
