A deceptively smooth Imperial brown rye ale, brewed in honor of our good friend Chris Kael. This high ABV beer is aged on oak and, to honor Chris' Kentucky roots, designed to invoke bourbon flavors. Barrel-aged enthusiasts and music lovers alike will enjoy this collaborative effort.

Smells like resinous hops and toasty/roasty malt. Flavor is reasonably hop-forward but followed up by a great malt bill, giving it an almost stout/porter like flavor, namely a somewhat metallic back end. Rye brings everything together with a sweet touch. Quite bitter, quite strong, and quite big. If that's what you're looking for, this does it supremely well. If not, well, sorry.

Thanks, Bill!
Got this one from Bill on a recent work trip. Pretty much everything I’d had from Able Baker had been solid. At least all the stouts I’d had. On Untappd I’d given four stouts anything from a 4 to a 4.25, and another IPA a 3.50. Description that I found calls it a, “A deceptively smooth imperial brown rye ale, brewed in honor of our good friend Chris Kael. This high ABV beer is aged on oak and, to honor Chris' Kentucky roots, designed to invoke bourbon flavors. Barrel aged enthusiasts and music lovers alike will enjoy this collaborative effort.”
Poured an almost pitch black color with one finger of khaki-tan fizzy head. Slow moving bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. Decent watery lacing. Average retention. (Sight - 3.25)
Smelled smooth coffee notes, semi-char wood, earthy rye, baker’s chocolate, cacao, oak and hints of coconut. More of the same from the can, maybe with the addition of light molasses. (Smell - 4.25)
Taste was almost as good as the nose. Still similar overall. Smooth for 10 pct. ABV. Got earthy rye, semi-char wood, baker’s chocolate, oak, cacao, mocha, hints of coconut and milk chocolate. (Taste - 4.00)
Full body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.25)
This was outstanding for the style. Very smooth, but fairly complex. (Overall - 4.00)
