Like its younger brother Narcissism this beer starts a bit the same, but then it makes a whole different turn, for the better. This hop loaded Double IPA has a base of Cascade & Centennial then we dry hop it, not once, but twice with Citra & Mosaic. The result, a beer that erupts with fresh aromatics, and balanced hop flavors. While at the same time has a great mouthfeel and a clean finish.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a lightly hazy, medium coppery amber with a massive four finger white head that dissipates slowly to a thick cap and nice lacing. Aroma of caramel and lightly biscuit malt, citrus and piney hops. Flavor follows, with caramel malt, citrus and piney hops, orange, grapefruit and pine. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Well, I found this can in a store that I suspect is not on top its freshness duties, but hadn't seen anything from Sumerian for while and wanted to try something else from them. I was surprised to see on BA that the brewery closed late last year, so this is rather aged for an IPA, but I guess it was my last chance anyway. It's a good, old fashioned style IPA with caramel malt and hints of biscuit and a solid West Coast profile of citrus and pine. The hops do taste a little tired, but have held up satisfactorily. The combo of citrus, pine and caramel has always been one of my favorite hopped ale combinations and this was a good quaff. I wish I had tasted it fresh, it is likely to have scored higher. Sorry to hear that they have moved on. Looks and smells nice; tastes like it has a few months on it, which it does. Still enjoyed it.

Very creamy and frothy, off-white head. Very clear, medium amber/orange appearance. Sweet spiced tangerine and caramelized medium toast malt, make up the aroma. Very ample and concentrated Darjeeling tea conjoined with tangerine peel, accompanied by a very sufficient, medium toasted and quite caramelized barley malt, with a good citrus peel bite that sustains for the taste. As the taste starts to trail off, there is a sensation of succulence that occurs. Really enjoyable aftertaste of a glowing, spiced and candied tangerine peel sort. Really enjoyable.

12oz can served in a can glass. Beer is deep amber and clear, and pours with loads of white head. Another great looking brew from Sumerian. Aroma is a bit on the fruity side. Big IPA hop profile with familiar pine and citrus pith notes. Grain bill is not as clean as the Dank, but the hops are more flavorful here. Overall good, but not too remarkable.

Crystal clear body; honey colored, nice and gentle rising carbonation; very nice white and fluffy head. Quiet notes of caramel and spicy hop scents. Good flavors; gentle cereal grain malts; a bit of caramel; crystal malt sweetness; some estery fruitiness; fair hop bitterness. Medium body; some crystalline sugariness; finishes with some slight alcohol warmth.

This DIPA delivers some straightforward goods. It is nothing exceptional, but certainly enjoyable and satisfying.

Six pack of cans purchased at Total Wine in Lynnwood, Washington.
No dating on the cans. Poured in to a pint glass.

Look- Clear golden orange color, modest off-white head with good retention, moderate lacing. light carbonation streams as it sits.

Smell- Lots of citrus in the aroma (grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, lime), pine, bready malt, stone fruit, light tropical fruit (passion fruit and mango), floral/grassy notes.

Taste- Follows the nose, Well balanced between the hops and malt, not too bitter.

Feel- Medium bodied, slightly sticky. Light carbonation on the tongue.

O- This beer just won double gold at the Sip NW competition for the Imperial IPA category (tied with Bale Breaker Bottomcutter). Considering I live about five miles from this brewery, I'm surprised that I haven't had a Sumerian sooner. Glad I finally did though, this is a very nice DIPA. Give it a try if you see it.

A very good double IPA. Very clear golden yellow with slight brown overtone. Head small but stays around.

This has all the citrus flavors you'd expect from the hops used snf well balanced. After taste is pleasant and lingers.

ABV is a bit high. Expected with an IPA this well balanced. But be warned.

I heard it won some local awards. If so, it deserves them.

Recommended.

Pours a hazy orange tinted amber with a massive foamy head that doesn't dissipate for a while...and when it does, the lacing it leaves is as dense as the foam was. Smell is decently hoppy and citrusy, on point for a double IPA. The taste has a nice blast of bitterness that is chased away by a very sweet finish. Either would be too much on its own, but the two blend almost perfectly here. Mouthfeel is nice and smooth. Definitely one for the rotation.

12oz can poured into 10oz fluted tulip. Poured a clean, clear honey-gold color, with about 1/4 inch of white head that had moderate retention and light lacing.

Big, bright, bold hops hit the nose first, with a lightly sweet malt scent behind it.

Same on the tongue; bright hops upfront and in the middle, a touch of sweetness at the back, and a bit of nice bitterness on the finish.

The body was nicely solid, maybe a bit more than medium, and finished dryly.

Drinkability was good, the beer went down easily enough. In fact, I knocked back a couple last night while watching the mariners with a friend. Overall, a nice example of the Classic American ImpIPA. Worth trying if you see it.
