Served up at the Victory Winter Cask Festival, and this is the description given: "Light straw coloured lager aged 6 months (180 days - hence the name). Dry hopped with Japanese Sorachi Ace hops which impart a light citrus aroma and flavour."
This was the first beer I had at the festival and seemed a little out of place in comparison to the wintery offerings that followed. However, it surprised me by being the best drink I had all day. Rating within the style, this is just an excellent lager - not a whole ton of complexity compared to imperial stouts, but far more depth than its style brethren, who it blows out of the water.
Hazy golden body with a tight white head, that lasted quite well. Nice clean fruity aroma, with nice hints of citrus. Clean malty flavour, with a satisfying breadiness, and a cleansing herbal lemon finish, which refreshes the palate. Possibly the most agreeable lager I have had. Excellent body on my first cask lager - I really don't know why this isn't done more often, as it really helps the flavours to shine.
Very well done - Neustadt are always good for a nice brew.
