473 mL can from the LCBO; coded 509 2055 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear, pale golden-yellow colour, producing less than half an inch of tight, foamy white head that disappears within sixty seconds or so. A thin collar is left surrounding an islet of film - looks like a light lager to me. Not a whole lot of anything on the nose - faint cereal graininess, maybe a whisper of grassiness. Inoffensive, and technically appropriate for the style.
I don't mind this, and actually came to like it over the course of the glass. Grainy pale malts, cereal and doughy sweetness at the forefront, maybe even a hint of honey. Herbal, earthy hops on the back end add just a touch of bitterness. Light in body, with average carbonation that adds to a crisp mouthfeel; unbelievably easy to toss back.
Final Grade: 3.44, an acceptable B-. Brock Street's Craft Light Lager is considerably more flavourful than your average light beer, and at first I wasn't entirely sure that was a good thing. Somewhat sweeter than I'd prefer from a light beer, but the hops add something extra to the back end - no, it's not as 'clean' as a macro light beer, but it does taste more like an actual, well, craft lager. I'd still rather be drinking a pilsner, but if you're in the market for a light beer then this is worth taking a flyer on.
