Silky smooth, light bodied. A creamy whisper of nostalgia ignites every backyard laugh.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, from their boxset at my favourite LCBO at The Roundhouse Centre in nearby Windsor. My fourth beer from the Whitby brewery.

473 mL can included in Brock Street's Backyard Party Pack, purchased at the LCBO. Coded 840 4134 and served slightly chilled.

Pours clear and effervescent, its golden yellow-hued body topped with an inch of soapy, sudsy white head that falls back within the next three minutes or so. A modest collar of froth remains, alongside a filmy cap and narrow band of lace - looks good so far. Plain, grainy nose with hints of sweet cereal, apples and grassy hops.

It's not bad - I'm tasting cereal grain sweetness for the most part, accented with notes of orchard fruit, lemon peel and grassy, weakly lemony hops on the back end. Grainy aftertaste that doesn't linger for long - pretty basic, but approachable even for macro beer hardliners. Light in body, with lively carbonation that gives a decent bite to this brew's smooth texture; great drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.41, a passable B-. Chillin And Grillin is exactly what you'd expect from a beer named chillin' and grillin'. Not a memorable experience in any way, but instead something simple, fizzy and yella to wash down a burger or sausage hot off the barbecue. It more or less nails my expectations of a cream ale, but lacks the unique facets and/or flourishes required to make it anything more than ordinary. I'd rank this slightly higher than Sleeman's Cream Ale - good enough to work in a pinch, but that's it.
