Demented Brewing Company "Gallows Hill" NE IPA.
a) Pours a hazy body as cloudy as a hefeweizen, amber-orange body sports a large, rocky white head that lasts and laces.
s) Citrus, hemp hop bomb, fresh juicy, pulpy.
t) Follows smell, bigger and more juice, pulp, butter on a biscuit malty core that finishes with a jangling bitterness. Nice.
f) smooth clean juicy as in the new hazed, single male single hop style.
o) Great NJ beer. For NYC and NJ - it's the water.

CO 12-27-17 Pours mid-hazy, cream colored. Med head, med lacing. Without going into the details, there was a bit of citrus in the taste, but I pulled none of it in the aroma.

I was not impressed with this supposedly being a NEIPA. It didn't taste all that bad, but as it warmed, a fairly odd taste came to the front. I'll not revisit this beer, as it's not as advertised correctly, and even it was labeled as a IPA, it was a bit of a mess.

Demented Brewing Company "Gallows Hill"
16 fl. oz. can, coded "THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE 12/21/17" and sampled on 01/25/18
$5.49 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Notes via stream of consciousness: Gallows Hill? So is that a real place near these guys in Middlesex, NJ? And was it gallows for hanging people, or was it just the farm of some guy named Gallows? Anyway, it pours a very hazy body but it's not quite cloudy like a hefeweizen, and certainly not even cloudier like a "milkshake" IPA (and that's fine with me, there are plenty of NE IPAs that look like this). The body is an amber-orange in color beneath a two finger thick head of pillowy off-white. The aroma is not bursting with citrus but it's certainly clear enough, and there's some hop resin to it as well. The flavor is more citrusy than the nose suggests, and somewhat tropical with a little bit of pine as well. It's a nice blend and although I don't get the "juicy" character at the front of the mouth or across the middle even, it's certainly there in the finish - as if you'd just drank a glass of half-sweetened grapefruit / half less-sweet orange juice with some mango and papaya thrown in. And it retains its IPA identity as well with a firm, lightly biscuity maltiness and solid bitterness. I only mention that because there are some "juicy" IPAs on the market that have very little bitterness, at least less than a pale ale normally would, and minimal body. Which brings me to creamy smoothness which is part of the NE IPA style, usually due in part to oats or wheat, and sometimes lactose. This offers a decent creamy smooth mouthfeel but it's not the best I've ever had. It feels bigger than medium bodied though, and the carbonation isn't biting, but gently bristling. For some reason I think they might have used lactose to brew this but I'm not sure why, maybe because of the way the malt sweetness lingers in the finish. Back to the appearance, I still have a nice head on it, although I was swirling the glass, and the lacing is pretty good. And as for the aroma, I'm now finding more tropical notes and not just the grapefruity citrus I was getting at first - a beer needs to warm up a little to exhibit all of its character. On that note, I'm also finding a sharper, almost lemony note in the flavor (Citra?). So, overall, where does it stand? I'd say it's a pretty solid NE IPA. It may not be the best but it's not like other NE IPAs where I have to question the NE part as it's really just a hoppy IPA and that's it. Some of those aren't really even that hoppy in the end, but this one delivers. Worth trying to be sure!

It pours orange with some nice haze and a eggshell head. The aroma is.... Well to be honest there is no aroma at all. If I leave the beer to warm then I smell a slight sulfuric note with some butterscotch. The taste is very mild with no signs of hops or any malts. Just a mild bitterness and a burnt plastic flavor I usually associate with infected brews. There is even some Brett-like barnyard. Not a fun beer. I'm sure it was not intended to be brewed this way but it was completely undrinkable, even though it was very fresh (just over 2 weeks from the canning date).

canned 12/21/17 and enjoyed on 1/13/17 so it's pretty fresh

pours a slightly hazy amber. not a milkshake turbid NE-IPA but slight haze and a little darker than expected

aroma is sweet. honey and mango imo. almost some Belgian bubblegum to this

taste is unique, solidly bitter and i get a lot of malt in this yet it's full of hop flavor. tons of mango and almost apple to it. goes down easy enough but has a lingering aftertaste of mango/papaya.

certainly a unique NE style IPA. not what i expected but worth a try. there are much better NE style IPAs in the area (Conclave, Lone Eagle, etc) but it's not bad. for me, it made me really question whether I liked or hated it. has a very strong flavor that you either enjoy or dislike. solidly drinkable but nothing special

Appearance: hazy dark orange in color with a 1" head that quickly falls. This is the first NE IPA I had that was this dark.

Smell: tropical fruit is detectable.

Taste: caramel, very mild pineapple, mango, and a moderate bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Lightly crisp throughout.

Overall: a mild flavored beer that just doesn't seem to reach an NE IPA level.

decent at best. doesnt look like NE style IPA, very dark color, but who really cares about the appearance. on aroma and palate there is some sweet citric character but honestly the maltyness prevails. slight floral and piney notes as well. I would have probably rated this better if it wasnt trying to be a NEIPA, for any old IPA it isnt bad, but when your expecting something soft and fluffy and juicy with some complexity, this falls far short.
