Pours a hazy amber color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Slight retention and poor lacing. Smells of slight bacterial funk, slight sweet malt, yeast, wine, and a hint of wood. Fits the style of a Saison / Farmhouse Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level and strong dryness. Tastes of hint of bacterial funk, wine, slight sweet malt, slight yeast, hint of wood, slight fruit, and a hint of spice. Overall, poor appearance, wine dominates aroma and body, with a good feel and complexity.

Enjoyed from the 12 oz bottle in a snifter via a friend from work----THANKS RANDY!
This unique little ale pours a clear golden amber with a moderate head of white foam that
settles to a thin ring, thin subtle pool, and features light lacing. Nose of Cabernet wine, light
oak, and subtle sweet malts. Flavors lightly exceed with nice Cabernet wine notes, almost Shiraz,
with light oak notes tossed into a subtle light sweet honey malt mingling with light citrus fruit
notes and light herbal hop notes. Nice mouth feel; medium light body, medium spritzy carbonation
that keeps things lively, and a medium light dry finish.
Overall, a fine little brew that is solid, yet begs for some more yeast ester notes. Still a good
run on a nice style.
Cheers

Appearance: Cloudy, effervescent amber, with a thin, wispy white head and very little lace.
Aroma: Wine-like, yes, with notes of grapes, red fruit, some toffee and yeast.
Taste: Fruity, musty, funky and tart, with some sourness and even a bit lactic. I get red wine, berries, and yeastiness. Overall, a nice and complex sipper.

L: Light copper in color with 1 finger head, sporadic lacing; attractive package to support their barrel aging process
S: Subtle citrus and oak hints, red wine even fainter.
T: Earthy tone with noticeable citrus notes (lime and orange zest), followed by a mild pepper finish.
F: Carbonation and weight balanced producing an attractive mouth feel
O: Refreshing for sure, would have again but not overly memorable.

The natural tendency is for Belgian saison to taken on vinous white wine nuance during fermentation. But the addition of red wine barrels offers a kiss of something different, something robust, something of intrigue.
Goodwood's Red Wine Barrel Saison is a lucious golden ale with burnt orange strands. Its somber froth swirls with a rich aromatic and fruity bouquet. Orchard, citrus and light tropical scents ride alongside a tinge of pepper and spice with a medley of wine. The early palate is juicy with honeysuckle, fresh baked pastry, and simple fructose sweetness.
As the taste evolves, the flavors of apple cider, spiced pear and melon round out the semi-sweet upstart before the malt sweetness begins to retreat. Fruit esters turn citrusy with orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit before trailing with those curious dry grape flavors. Balanced on the middle palate, the ale relies on fresh white pepper, light clove and cumin for a rounded taste; trailing with a mild grassy hop bitterness.
Finishing with a dry malt and grainy-spicy backbone, hints of dry fruit peels join the red wine and oak complexity for a taste that's charmingly more than traditional farmhouse ale. Its grassy hop bite is joined with a crisp coppery mineral finish and the vinous twang of alcohol that's reserved for rosé wine.

I only had a small sample but it was nice, refreshing with hints of brett. Reminded me of a mild Orval. I'd buy again.
