Canned 12/22/16; drank 1/7/17 @ the Yarchives.

Black/brown appearance.

A violent pour yielded a huge tan head; strong, frothy lace.

Peppermint, fresh earth & mild dry pistachio notes in the nose.

Thin mouthfeel.

Peppermint & spring water flavors up front; fresh earth & milk chocolate notes on the finish.

Sweet & thinner than the original; this is NOT an improvement. Drinkable but not enjoyable

16oz can, served in a snifter glass. Pours a darker brown body, cola colour with a one finger offwhite head, good retention, thick film, bits of lacing. Smell is dry peppermint, a bit of milk chocolate, cocoa and lactose, but this is by far dominated by the peppermint. Flavour is a bit weird, with peppermint, touch of lactose, light milk chocolate and then more peppermint on the backend. It's heavy on the peppermint that's for sure; although it isn't like chewing gum. Mouthfeel is medium lighter bodied, good carbonation, smooth with a peppermint forward finish. Not my thing, but certainly not terrible.

A - Poured into a tulip, dark black with a thin tan head
S - As soon as I cracked the can I tried, I was almost turned off right there. It smelled awful, like a ton of fake flavors and nail polish remover.
T - Just as bad as the smell, one of the worst beers I've ever had. There's WAY too much going on, and whatever they used for the peppermint just screwed up everything they were trying to do here. It honestly tasted like expired chocolate with rubbing alcohol on it.
F - Medium to light mouth feel, although after 3 sips it went down the drain.
O - I wanted to really like this beer. I thoroughly enjoyed the regular Milkstachio, and thought a touch of peppermint would make this a great Christmas beer. I couldn't have been more wrong, and honestly Hop Butcher shouldn't make this again unless they do a complete overhaul. I tried giving it a chance, but after 3 sips it was certainly an instant drain pour.

Pretty good milk stout. Peppermint definitely comes through.
