Another fresh can from Outlet. Just as rewarding as earlier Double Grid. More Orange in color but same huge plump long lasting white head. Lots of nose mostly tropical fruits and citrus. Taste is a rich tropical fruit bomb with nice lesser citrus accents from Moteueka. Resinous El dorado jumps in perfectly. Wonderfully balanced. Body is smooth and not burny bright… so easy to sip and enjoy. Just as well made as Double Grid but differs only in its flavor/scent profile from differing hop profile. Excellent.

I’ve become a real huge Hop Butcher fan because of beers like this one: An explosion of tropical fruity fragrance at the start, and backed up by a winning slightly bitter hoppiness that reinforces it’s a Double IPA without punching you in the face. I apologize for being gauche, but when I burped just now (2/3 of the way through), the tropical fruity flavor (orange, mango, etc.) was pretty pleasant. (Don’t tell my wife I said this!)

Soothing the senses, taming the brain and casting any worries away, Hop Butcher carves up some Mosaic, Motueka and El Dorado hops to help unwind the mind.

With a basic and hazy golden orange appearance, Unwind the Mind fuels a cottony white froth and a fruity forward scent of citrus, tropical, stone fruit and fine herb. As a medium grainy sweet taste of pastry, honey and sugary mango coat the palate, a familiar taste of grapefruit, orange, apricot and passionfruit keep the fruity hops flowing. Drying in finish, the late taste turns bitter for balance and allows for a crisp and bittersweet balance.

Favoring the hop bitterness slightly more in aftertaste, the mind is fully unwound an the tastebuds are delighted.

Completely cloudy orange in color with a thick white frothy head. Nose is very much orange and grapefruit juice as well as the taste. Alcohol volume is not very evident as this is a smooth drinking beer.

Pours a hazy yellowish color with persistent foam. Aroma is quite appealing, in the citrus vein. Taste is astoundingly sweet. The sugar seems to hide the hop flavor, unless it is just orange rind and nothing else. There is an unpleasant bitter aftertaste, like when you don't get the aspirin down quick enough. What am I missing here, to judge from the general adulation? Or is sugary Tang the state of the art in brewing? I am rating this to the style, and this seems to be a classic example, though more intense and eye watering than many. From the 16 oz can purchased on the West Coast. Not dated.

16oz can. No dating information found.
Hazy, pale gold colored body. Two fingers of white head, and this becomes an interrupted cap and high ring. Leaves behind partial rings and webs of lacing.
Aroma wafts a few feet from the opening in the can. Smells of orange, grapefruit, peach, and mango.
Taste is bright with hops. Flavors of orange, grapefruit, melon, and berry. Rather low bitterness but there is some pine resin involved. All continue in the aftertaste.
Medium mouthfeel, with a soft touch texture. Touch of creaminess, certainly not abrasive. Good carbonation.
Aromatic with a pleasant range of hop flavors. Joins a common IPA expression theme. Very good but not necessarily distinctive.

Flavor: Moderate flavors of orange, tropical, berries, dank, tropical notes with some hints of resinous pine. Tropical. Slightly sweet, mildly better. Clean. (4.25)

Compared to Hop Butcher Cosmic Fountain 6/2024: Pours darker, milder aromas. Less orange, vanilla, tropical grape and berries. More citrus, pine. Overall, very similar.

to Hop Butcher Loophole Technicality 6/2024: Pours slightly lighter, similar head. Similar aromas. Less tropical mango and peach. More guava, grape, and lychee. Winner: Unwind Your Mind
7/24: More sweet grape, lychee, resinous pine. Less Orange, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, and guava.

to Mortalis Brewing Strange Philosophies 105 6/2024: Pours darker, stronger head. Milder aromas. Less pineapple, mango, tropical notes. More dank orange, lychee, pine. Juicier. Winner: Mortalis.

This dark orange thick headed brew checks all the boxes. Sips of this light carbo'd heavy bodied beer reveal tropical and citrus flavors with the heaviest touches being kiwi and melon. A bit of over sweetness creeps in to the fine albeit unabrasive finish. Overall a well crafted hazy, but not one I'd revisit again after the four are gone because of it's cloying nature.

Copper to gold in color with a hazy complexion. There’s an inch of densely packed off white on top. Light, soapy lacing is present. The aroma is of melon and lime. I’m tasting bitter melon and some grapefruit. The mouth is smooth and inviting.

Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. No date on the can.

Appearance: medium golden-yellow hue with plenty of haze and a thick finger of frothy eggshell foam atop.

Smell: moderately sweet with a light tropical-passionfruit aroma. The intensity is rather light but the composition is good.

Taste: a bit on the sweet side, but a good level of tropical hops, bordering on dank. There’s some earthy guava in with the passionfruit, which definitely works for me. I dig it.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: a solid hazy IPA. A bit sweet, but good flavor profile, and quite drinkable.
