16 ounce can into a stange glass. Canned 8/11/20, had 9/30/20.
Pours a bright pale yellow, a little hazy, with a two and a half inch head of spongy foam with some foamy lacing. Fairly active carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, light lemon, malt, light funk, light yeast. Has a floral aroma. Similar flavors- grapefruit, malt, light yeast and funk, lemon as it warms. Has a floral taste and a touch of hop bitterness. Smooth, a decent light body, well carbonated.
It’s definitely hoppy, but not in an IPA takeover way. It’s nice and fruity in both the aroma and flavor. Maybe could have a little stiffer feel. A solid twist on the style. Enjoyable.

The Kolsch style is not my favorite style of beer but then again this is a Hop Butcher beer. So of course this is a hopped up version of a Kolsch but not as hopped up as I was expecting. It was a very easy drinking kolsch with some nice flavor from the riwaka hops that were added. Very light and smooth.

Canned 8/11/20; drank 8/30/20 @ the Yarchives.
Cloudy yellow/orange appearance.
A violent pour yielded a big white head; frothy lace.
Lemon, dry wheat, mild cream & faint clove notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Lemon, dry wheat, cream & dry orange peal flavors.
An interesting take on the style that probably skews a bit too hoppy. I didn't mind too much.

16oz can
date stamped 08/11/20
L: hazy pale golden bier; frothy white head
S: super spicy and earthy hop aroma, pale biscuity malt
T: more of that super spicy hop - definitely unique; grassy, earthy, pale Pilsner malt perhaps
F: Lighter body, ample carbonation, balanced finish
O: Riwaka hops, huh? Totally unique - like nothing I’ve ever had before. I’d try these hops again.

This is all about the Riwaka hop. I first had it in a Daisy Cutter variant a month or two ago and I think I have a new favorite hop. It's so funky and strange to my pallet. I have a feeling it's not for most people as it's very different. Definitely gueuze like with the funk. In a kolsch is going to throw people if they don't know what they're getting into as they're usually rather light. This is pretty bold for the style. It's a pretty color (straw color) with a nice mouthfeel of light carbs. The smell is all riwaka funk. I don't even know if you can call this a kolsch still. Anyway, definitely worth picking up if you're in the mood for a light summer beer with tons of complexity.
