This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like tobacco, heavily charred oak, fudgy dark chocolate, licorice, vanilla, and dark fruit.
This is fantastic, especially if you want barrel aged beers that really punch home the barrel character. There’s a pleasant chocolatey and slightly fruity sweetness, with a touch of barrel vanillin. But it’s mostly burly, spicy, and charred barrel character here – tobacco, leather, licorice, and spice, with caramel and blackstrap molasses from the bourbon. There’s also a slight touch of coffee like flavor, and just a hint of maple as it warms a bit.
This is medium bodied, and creamy, and not all that boozy for the heft here.
This is pretty much exactly how I prefer my barrel aged stouts – not too sweet, lots of barrel, and endlessly complex.
