Copenhagen 19/9 2019. 33 cl bottle from Meny, Vermlandsgade, Kbh. S. Grey and Orange version of Windswepts usual design.
Pours opaque dark brown with a small light beige head. Settles as thin, flimsy patch of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium intense, sweetish and smoky. Caramel, toffee, cool mint, peat, light roast. Licorice of the salty variety.
Medium carbonation. Thin, oily, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is medium sweet followed by a slightly more moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a smoky and salty touch. Lingers for a while.
Pretty light for a Smoke Beer. But with a well tuned dosage of smoke.

Good smoke. Moderate drinker. Aged a few years, 4 or more. eased taste but still high carbonation. RIP Windswept which sent reasonably priced drinkable beers our way.

330 mL bottle from the LCBO; best before Aug 21 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours clear chestnut brown, with more of a ruby red hue when held to the light; gathered atop is nearly two fingers of fluffy, foamy, beige-coloured head that lasts for more than five minutes. It cakes the glass with a generous coat of lace as it drops off, eventually reduced to a creamy quarter-inch cap and collar - it's a fabulous looking glass of beer. Mostly campfire smoke on the nose, with hints of toffee, wood, prune and herbal, floral hops.
A tasty little smoked beer - I'm getting treacle, cocoa and roasted grains at the forefront, with campfire smoke being a constant fore & background presence throughout the sip. Herbal hop bitterness peaks before a roasty finish with suggestions of dark fruit; smoke and ash linger into the aftertaste, which is dry. Medium-light in body, with assertive carbonation that adds a crisp, prickly bite to this porter's smooth mouthfeel - got to be one of the most sessionable smoked beers I can recall reviewing over the years.
Final Grade: 3.91, a B+. If nothing else, Windswept's Clavie is an interesting beer - and in an underrepresented style that I have always had a fondness for. The smokiness is just about right for a porter of this strength: impossible to miss, but not so dominant so as to become a nuisance. That being said, the base porter comes off as competently brewed, yet somehow underwhelming - that is to say, without the smoke I don't think it'd have much going for it. Recommended to lovers of smoked beer.

330 ml bottle served cold into a pint glass.
Appearance - Very dark brown in color with good clarity and a finger and a half of loose light tan head.
Smell - So much smoke, earthy peaty smoke. Pretty great to be honest.
Taste - Roasty and quite smoky, increasing as it warms. Lots of peat, hints of wood.
Mouthfeel - medium body, with light carbonation, sort of thin but works and with the smoke prevalence would be cumbersome with more body. Dry smoky finish.
Overall - Really nice smoky smoke porter with some light roasty notes throughout and accentuated with a huge and healthy dose of smoked peat. Nice beer, but those enjoying a peaty scotch(of which I am one) I imagine may enjoy more than others.

330 ml bottle, L082, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 5.5%. Black colour, moderate tan head. Sweetish malty aroma with distinct notes of beech smoke. The flavour is slightly dry, again moderately malty and roasty with distinct notes of beech smoke. Low bitterness.
