Picked up this beer a while ago, finally getting around to it tonight. Nice to haves something different than what I've become accustomed to from LIC and this wasn't anything like their typical IPA's that I've come to enjoy in recent years. Sweet, smooth, and easy to quaff, this was nearly as nice a session beer as I've had in some time but the roasted undertone was just a tad too strong for me.
Not a bad pour to this as the liquid was a dark cola brown with enough carbonation to it. Lots of spongy, fluffy head topped this off as it looked like bread and held it's own for a while. Hardly any lacing left on the side of my pint glass as this seemed quite thin in consistency, although that wasn't quite the case once I tasted it. Sweet and creamy, this felt like coffee as a moderate and lasting roasted tone took hold; especially as this warmed up. Bitter chocolate could be felt in the taste and in a slight graininess as the aftertaste was gritty and dry, needing me to get a chaser of water to fully get it down.
Thankfully, this was enjoyable as there was no discernible booze whatsoever. A bit like a Coffee Porter, this was such an easygoing Stout that I wanted to have another once I finished it off. Not LIC's best but I enjoyed it both as a deviation from the norm and just by itself, as a beer that didn't finish my night off. Too bad there wasn't a date or anything else written on the bottom of the can!
