Got this beer a while ago, though I can't remember if it was via a trade or not. Nice to se LIC take on this style as it's outside of their normal realm and to some extent, this worked nicely. I wouldn't consider this am imperial *anything* as it reminded me of a Chocolate Stout without the overt booziness and it ended up being like a candy bar in my pint glass, more than anything else...
This had one of the odder pours that I've seen in quite a long time, as the beer poured and looked just like a melted chocolate bar. Brown, muted, and with a faded patina on it, I couldn't help that I was having something that kids would be trick-or-treating for (in solid form) next week. Tons of milk chocolate, cocoa powder, and booze in the nose as the coconut came through in the taste. Silky, smooth, and slightly rich, a faint sugary sweetness took hold as this fully warmed up. A dessert beer if there ever was on, the hops where hard to find but when you can drink something like this without a straw, would you even notice?
There was enough alcohol here to give this strength but it was hardly noticeable as it complemented the flavor profile quite nicely. This wasn't strong for an American Imperial Stout on the level of the Old Rasputin or the Shakespeare Stout but what it lacked in potency it more than made up for in taste. On the level of the Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout, this had tons of deep flavor that was countered by the smoothness of the underlying coffee. Fun stuff that stood out from both LIC's other offerings and other examples of this style; as I'd easily for this again once winter sets in...

Black body with minimal head and no lace. The aroma doesn't really strike me as anything for some reason - just bland and barely "malty". Medium to heavy bodied beer that is slow and sticky with a touch of roasted malts that is balanced by a nice bready and sugary sweetness with some chocolate. More sweet than anything else and is easy to drink and hides the booze but not much of a lactic or coffee taste at all and is basically chocolate cake-like.
