An interesting find from an even more interesting micro.
My first from Lucky Envelope, I went on their website and immediately got an explanation for their unusual name. This may be the first American micro of the 1900+ that I've reviewed that was Chinese-culture inspired. But if there is only one such micro, it fittingly is in Seattle where the Chinese community is large and the micro-community is among the most innovative. Lucky Envelope also offers some of the better Tasting Notes on their tap list. All around a well-told story and unique niche.
Gingerbread was canned three months ago, around Thanksgiving and could entice Santa. While its generous tan head settles quickly, Smells are milk chocolate with holiday spices. Tastes blend the sweet and spices nicely with the toasty stout. Balanced. Medium-mouthed.
Not by intent and more by poor meal planning, I started drinking this with an Indian Dal Mahani and they surprisingly paired well; the Indian spices finding a home in the malty stout. Lucky me !
