Had on tap, looked and smelled pretty good - bready and slightly fruity fragrance. Taste was smooth and full, but I couldn't really pick apart the pieces. It's one of those beers that you want to like, but can't. You'll drink it, but you don't really remember what you just had. I will say that for being a 9% doppelbock, it's really easy to drink. Mammoth has tried to develop some bigger beers and they are nearly good. I want to get behind them but at the end of the day I've got Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas, Russian River, Firestone Walker, Stone, etc. nearby with strong presence and I can't say Mammoth competes with their diversity and quality on all fronts.

S: Day-old brown bread with dried cherries and plums, spirit-like alcohol warming. Fruitiness is quite light and hints at raspberries, apple, and pear.
T: Very smooth maltiness that’s got a lot of black fruit and a touch of golden biscuit breadiness but is only slightly sweet up front. A touch dry in the middle with bread crust and brown sugar piercing through the continued fruitiness. Fruits are rich and smooth with a lot of plum-wine character. Fairly refined since its not sweet. No hop character, but it a touch tannic/grainy/minerally. Full-bodied, average for the style. Finish has a nice light sherry note and is pleasantly warming with the faintest hint of herbal/floral noble hops to complement the fruit.
Notes: As mentioned by others, a decent beer that’s just a bit plain and one-dimensional.

Appearance: Pours a burnished chestnut with a finger's worth of head that leaves quite a few strands behind; good retention
Smell: Burnt brown sugar, caramel, plums and figs, with a hint of chocolate
Taste: Caramel and plums, with subtle undertones of fig flavor; no real flavor progression
Mouthfeel: Full bodied but rather flabby, despite the attractive head/lacing
Overall: A rather run of the mill version of the style; nothing wrong with it (other than the mouthfeel) but just not that memorable
