So right out the gate, I think people are prolly going, "dude that is epic, or 395, or toulumne meadows. . . " But no. This is just straight up Mammoth IPA from yesteryear.
Poured an amber color, seems highly indicative of crystal malt. Off white 1/2" head. Aroma was lacking, seemed like you got more bittering hops and crystal malt caramel like notes out of the aroma than aroma hops.
Taste was similar to 395 or Toulumne Meadows, but the high desert sage/juniper combo wasn't there. This was just all bittering hops and crystal malt in addition to the normal pale and 2 row. Decent but a trinket from yesteryear for the most part. I guess I'd say it had more in common with Toulumne given the similarity in strength. They might have been up on the trend of taking the same beer, maybe slightly changing it and voila! New beer!
At the end of the day, it seemed to have some C like bitterness (tree/grapefruit rind), caramel and not much else.
