When I poured it the color was a golden tan:
The foam was thick big bubble almost like a stout but white not tan or off white
The nose, wow: smoke chiles, kind of a chipotle heavy smoke and heavy like black pepper, I was a little worried to drink it at this point
The taste: whoa, it was like a firestone DBA, then you only got subtle smoke and pepper on the back end, not something I would want to drink everyday, but none the less a really unique beer that’s worth a try:

22 ounce bomber decanted into a curved imperial pint glass.
Appearance: Deep bronze with a thin beige head that disappears quickly.
Smell: Sweet, bready malt with hot chilies in the background. A bit of smoke lingers around the edges of the glass.
Taste: Typical amber, with the suggestion of hanging out around a campsite barbeque. The rye is a nice addition. There isn’t really isn’t any chili heat, but definitely a mild chili flavor. The smoke is very maturely restrained.
Mouthfeel: Medium body, medium carbonation. A kiss of warmth from the aforementioned heat.
Overall: Mammoth Brewing does a different beer every year to celebrate the incredible Bluesapalooza “Blues and Brews” festival in Mammoth Lakes. I was a little concerned when I heard that this year’s offering was a “smoke and chili” ale, but I have to admit that I’m rather impressed. This would be an easy beer to overdo, but somehow they kept a level hand and avoided a screw up. The chilies are present, but not hot. The smoke is there, but not overpowering. And all of that over a pretty interesting malt bill (rye, Crystal, Honey, Munich, and Beech Wood smoked malt). I don’t know that I’d want to drink a bunch of them, but for a “one-off”, this is really nice. Great move from one of the most underrated breweries out there. Well done, guys.
