Our love letter to the darkest side of the ale spectrum, this flavorful, complex brew incorporates black, brown and roasted malts which bring notes of chocolate, dark fruits and a hint of smoke. There's no actual coffee or cocoa in the beer, but your taste buds will tell you different. The addition of brown sugar tops it all off but not with an overly sweet finish.

Got this and way too many beers on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. I’ve certainly liked the stouts and porters I’ve had from Duck Foot more than its hoppy stuff, so was looking forward somewhat to this one. Online description I found read “Our love letter to the darkest side of the ale spectrum, this flavorful, complex brew incorporates black, brown and roasted malts which bring notes of chocolate, dark fruits and a hint of smoke. There's no actual coffee or cocoa in the beer, but your taste buds will tell you different. The addition of brown sugar tops it all off but not with an overly sweet finish.”

Poured a black color with two fingers of khaki-tan frothy head. Bubble streams coming up along the sides of the glass. Very good spotty lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Smelled dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, black licorice, anise, dark fruit, plum, milk chocolate and dark roasty malts. Smelled better each whiff. Not as good out of the can. (Smell - 4.00)

Tasted at least as good as the nose. Dark chocolate, dark roasty malts, cocoa, coffee, milk chocolate, black licorice, sticky molasses, anise, dark fruit and plum. Did not taste 10 pct. ABV. (Taste - 4.00)

Full body. Sticky-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.25)

This was outstanding overall. Really good for what it was. (Overall - 4.00)

Turn of Darkness from Duck Foot. Received on 21/2/21, cost $ 10.17 (Including shipping) for a 16 oz can ($ 0.636/oz) from Craftshack, San Diego, CA. Stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 9/3/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Served at 47.4 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 54.3 degrees.
Appearance – 4.
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Deep Brown (SRM 30), opaque. When rear-lite, some light penetrates at the edge, ruby brown.
Head – Average (Maximum 3.5 cm, aggressive center pour), camel, high density, average retention, leaving a six to nine mm torn crown, and a rocky thin complete cap. Second pour produces a 0.7 cm head.
Lacing – Good. Medium bands of tiny bubbles with a disintegrating upper edge and a few dripping stalactites of varying size.
Aroma – 3 – EXTREMELY weak chocolate, no hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 3 – Begins slightly bitter with a very weak chocolate/coffee flavor. No hops, no yeast. No alcohol (10 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Ends with unsweetened Baker’s chocolate with a long hang-time.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, almost creamy, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.25 (After deducting 0.25 points for undated container) OK, I guess, just not very desirable unless you have celiac disease – Duck Foot produces reduced gluten brews.
