Black Rye IPA w/ Coconut and Sea Salt
Spicy Rye, smooth caramel and chocolatey malt get all up and personal with Simcoe and Nugget hops, who bring a little more spicy citrus, pine and hop resin to the party. Waiting at the door is Mr. Coconut, both house toasted and fresh offering up his nutty, sweet and tropical aromas and flavors. Of course the magic is sea salt who is late to the party but never lets us down, bringing all of the semi-sweet, coco-nutty, and bright hoppy bitterness together for the final dance on your tongue. Let's Boogie.

Got this and way too many beers on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. Was kind of intrigued by this one as I hadn’t had a black IPA in may years off the top of my head. And this seemed pretty complex as it was described as “Spicy rye, smooth caramel and chocolatey malt get all up close and personal with Simcoe and Nugget hops who bring a little more spicy, citrus, pine and hop resin to the party. Poured a very dark color with two fingers of khaki frothy head. Calm setting underneath the head. Excellent foamy lacing. World-class retention. (Sight - 4.50)
Smell initially reminded me of a coconut stout or even a pastry stout. Got coconut, vanilla, cocoa, malt chocolate, spicy rye, caramel, toffee, citrus, woody pine and chocolate syrup. Not quite as good out of the can. (Smell - 4.00)
Tasted coconut, vanilla, malt chocolate, cocoa, spicy rye, woody pine, chocolate syrup, salted nuts, caramel, toffee and citrus notes. Mentioned hops were Simcoe, which I was getting from the spice, and Nugget, which I was getting from the woody pine. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, nutty finish. (Feel - 4.25)
Was back and forth on a few categories but I really liked this. Just tasted like a hoppy stout. Excellent. (Overall - 4.25)
